My kids like character-themed birthdays, but I’m not overly artistic. Thus, over the years, I’ve tried to come up with easy, creative, and affordable ways to incorporate various cartoon characters into birthday parties. Party City Canada has been a helpful resource.

I don’t have time to shop around at local stores to search out where I can find themed products. Party City Canada is an online store, specializing in party supplies. They have a great selection and a wide range of products branded with popular children’s characters (I recently held a Thomas the Train Engine party and am planning a Despicable Me party for later in the summer using decor from Party City Canada). Beyond birthdays, Party City Canada has products for many other popular holidays.
Of course, the main con is the fact that buying a bunch of disposable character products is wasteful. Party City Canada has some eco-friendly party supplies, but not any that are character-themed. To keep the waste to a minimum, I recommend being selective with what you choose to buy. Throwing a themed party does not mean that the entire house needs to plastered with images of your child’s favourite cartoon character. For example, get themed napkins, but use regular plates. Or, buy a themed cardboard cupcake stand (which can be used again), but skip the paper table cloth and piñata. Sticking with buying the minimum will save you money and reduce the amount of waste generated by the party.
